Laishram Mema Lyrics

Laishram Mema is one of the most celebrated singers in the history of Manipuri music and is widely known as the “Melody Queen of Manipur.” Born on 22 December 1948 at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai, Imphal, Manipur, she began singing at a very young age and later received formal training in Hindustani classical music and Kathak dance at Bhatkhande Music College in Lucknow.

She is regarded as a pioneer of Hindustani Sugam Sangeet in Manipur and became one of the first Manipuri artists to gain recognition on a national level. Throughout her career, she performed extensively on All India Radio and Doordarshan and is often credited as the first Manipuri singer to sing Hindi songs for All India Radio programs. She also sang playback for Hindi and Manipuri films and performed a notable duet with Lata Mangeshkar.

Laishram Mema received numerous honors, including the S.D. Burman Award, Surmani Award, and the Manipur State Award for her contributions to music. Beyond performing, she founded music institutions, trained young artists, and authored the music textbook Sur Vigyan, which became recognized for music education in Manipur.

Some of her well-known songs include Ningaidana Chakliba Lamei, Meichak Amagi, Tapna Tapna Thangbiyu, and Wahang Amagi Wakhalda. Her lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting Manipuri music has made her one of the most respected cultural icons of Manipur.
